Reward yourself for all your hard work

Decluttering involves making lots of decisions about what to keep and what to let go. The results will be exhilarating but it can be a physically and emotionally tiring process. It's important to acknowledge this and to reward yourself for achieving a decluttering goal even if it is sorting a small project like your bedside table.

Try to make the rewards experiences rather than objects to add to the clutter - treat yourself to a visit to the cinema, get your nails done or take half an hour to sit in the garden and relax with a glass of wine. To keep your motivation high select a reward in advance. I think a bunch of flowers is a great one - every time you look at them remind yourself that you are on your way to a clutter free home.
